TRiGroup, Inc. is proud to announce that Miguel Villarreal has joined our diverse team of dedicated professionals!
From Miguel himself: I have spent my career devoted to implementing innovative strategies to help improve students and adults nutritional and physical health well being in both Texas and California by working collaboratively with local, state and national allies to “Create Nutrition and Wellness Environments in Schools and Communities”
My story began in the fields of harvest. My family traveled in the US to find work in the fields for the first 17 years of my life. My passion for fitness and nutrition led me to a Bachelor of Food and Nutrition. My first job out of college was in School Food Service. I realized I was helping young active bodies stay healthy. It was here my passion became focused and I begin to connect the 3 C’s, Cafeteria, Classroom and Community to nutrition and wellness.
An advocate of Farm to School, I helped to make a nationally recognized gleaning program, taking families to the farms for harvest and increasing local, organic fresh produce in schools. In Novato, we have eliminated over 400 pounds of sugar each day from the school menu. In 2008, we eliminated all red meat from the school menu and as much processed food as our tight budget allowed. In 2011, I worked with community and allied organizations to successfully create and pass policy in a city ordinance, restricting mobile food trucks around all public and private schools.
My ever-advancing efforts to improve the food and the health of the community has been the interest of The Huffington Post and Wall Street Journal, brought invitations behind the doors of the White House and recognition from the USDA for creating a model of nutrition education. In 2011, internationally known Jamie Oliver recognized me as a Food Hero of Food Revolution
My innovative community model and established credibility among the community groups, policy makers, and foundations, as well as state and national officials gives my programs a high degree of success.
Specialty: Building collaborative wellness partnerships
